New Studies: Coffee Can Fight Obesity and Prevent Premature Death

Coffee is a ritual. A good deal of people must always get a grip on coffee every morning. Others take over 10 cups per day. But why do you love it so much? Your answer may be straightforward. Either you enjoy its calming effect, or it’s your preferred productivity fix.

Coffee has more benefits. There’s enough scientific evidence you should increase your daily consumption. Several studies show coffee can help you live longer. First, it can counter obesity and prevent the side effects of excess body weight.

Then, Coffee beans contain a ton of minerals that bring about the longevity effect. Coffee contains antioxidants and minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and vitamins. These antioxidants can help with weight loss and prevent high blood pressure. We all know minerals and vitamins are essential for a healthy body.

Coffee Can Help You Live Longer

One research presented at the European Society of Cardiology links high coffee consumption with long life. The study comprising 19,896 participants urges people to increase their coffee consumption. It’s also one of the first in the Meditteranean region.

Doctor Navarro, a cardiologist from Spain, says, “Many studies link coffee and low mortality. But we had to research in a Meditteranean country.” She further adds, “Our results show more cups of coffee per day need be part of a healthy diet for all the people.”

The study followed the Seguimiento University of Navarra (SUN) framework for cohort studies. At enrollment into the study, participants were 37 years and above.

The researchers collected information about coffee consumption, lifestyles, health habits, and health conditions.

Dr Navarro and her team followed the patients’ lifestyles for up to 10 years. They collected mortality information from the participants, the National Death Index, and families.

Three hundred and sixty-seven participants died during the study period. Research results showed participants who were regular coffee users had a 64% lower risk of premature death. The participants that consumed over three cups of coffee daily lived longer.

For every two extra cups of coffee consumed, there was a 22% lower risk of early death. The researchers further checked if sex, the Mediterranean diet, or age influenced the outcomes.

People 45 years and above showed a 30% lower risk of mortality for every two more cups of coffee consumed.

Dr Navarro concluded, “In the SUN project, we found an inverse link between coffee consumption and the risk of mortality.”

Coffee Associated with Reduced Risk of Death

The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition also reviewed the relationship between coffee consumption and mortality. EPICN’s study used a prospective cohort study format to come with its conclusion.

During the 16 years of study, 41693/521330 participants had died. As per the outcomes, top-end coffee users showed a significantly lower death chance. Men who consumed more coffee faced less digestive diseases. They thus had a higher chance of living longer.

Meanwhile, women that didn’t skip a morning cup of coffee had better blood supply to the brain. They were also less likely to have high blood pressure, stroke, or heart attacks.

Other causes of death may bias the outcomes of the study. Yet, the results remained the same, even after excluding participants that died eight years after the start of the study. Besides, EPICN researched in 10 European countries. The results were still similar, regardless of the participants’ residence.

EPICN concluded that consuming over two cups of coffee per day can cause a lower mortality rate. Over two cups of coffee can further raise the chances of living longer by 6%.

Both Caffeinated and Decaffeinated Coffee are Essential for a Longer Life

If you drink decaffeinated coffee, you may wonder if coffee’s mortality benefits apply to you. There’s a cohort study that shows both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee are beneficial for health.

According to the Harvard School of Public Health, coffee can lower the risk of premature death. Harvard’s report refers to a study of 200,000 participants assessed for over 30 years.

The study found a relationship between regular drinking of coffee and lower rates of mortality. People who drank 3-5 cups of coffee per day were 15% less likely to die from suicide, cardiovascular diseases, and Parkison’s disease.

Both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee helped to prevent diseases. The research suggests bioactive compounds may be responsible for coffee’s magical powers. These compounds are likely to block infections by preventing insulin resistance and inflammation.

Health Benefits of Coffee

Millions of people consume coffee around the world. That may well have led to the many studies that highlight the role of coffee in a healthy diet. Fears that coffee could increase the risk of high blood pressure or cause cancer have eased.

Coffee is now among the leading beverages. There are more people today who won’t skip a day without their daily coffee fix. Per day, over 2.25 billion cups of coffee quench the thirst of coffee lovers and contribute to the earnings of over 125 million people.

For many years, the things we loved turned out to be harmful. Alcohol, cigarettes, and sugar can ring a bell. Fortunately, research findings are now on our side. We can drink coffee, not only for fun but also to increase our lifespans.

Each cup of coffee you take comes with a ton of health benefits. You can drink to;
